O Lord, the makers of heaven & earth,
We take this opportunity on the last day of Y2K7 to Praise & Thank You for the year that was...
For the little hidden treasures You've blessed us with.
For the major defining moments of our lives which will never be forgotten
For blessing us with good health, good friends, good family
For giving us the opportunity to see your marvelous creation in 11 countries in this year alone
For providing & meeting ALL of our needs
For being a God of Faithfulness who honours every one of Your word & promises
For carrying us on your back when we were too frail to walk alone
For bottling our tears because it breaks your heart to see your precious one in despair
For giving us the strength to carry on because we know in Christ, we have victory.
For being a God of Love, Peace & Hope when the world around us has crumbled into destruction & hopelessness
For being our Omniscient, Omnipotent, Omnipresent God, who was and is and is to come...
"And Lord we want to thank You, for the works You've done in our lives. And Lord we trust in your unfailing Love. For You alone are God eternal through out earth & heaven above..."

No Coincidence. Only God-incident - Part I
I've realised I have not blogged about God's amazing goodness in both of our lives as much as we'd like to. This does not mean at all that God is just a faint distant lightning, in fact it is absolutely the opposite. So as we only have a few more days left of the year 2007, let me marvel you with series of what I will call it 'God-incidences'. These are real life testimonies of what God has done in our lives so far in Singapore. It will move your spirit!
1) Finding the right church
When I first came to Singapore in March this year, I started to shop for the right church by visiting at least 4 different churches before finally settling at Centre of New Life (CNL) with about 500 members. I love the convenience of getting there via MRT (eg. it is located in the heart of the shopping street of Singers on Orchard Rd). I love the people there. I love the sermons. I love the Pastors. I love the fact that most of them were Melbournians or had studied there some point in their life so it was easier to relate to them. I love the fact that I fitted in the age group since majority of the congregation were young adults. But most of all, I love the people's tenacity & passion for God.
Fast Forward to August, prior to 'importing' my husband over, I had prayed to God that Kelv would fit into CNL just fine as I would be devastated to leave the church & its people if Kelv didn't fit in (although I had prepared myself to leave if it was called for). So when Kelv came, to my surprise, he fitted in perfectly. He got along great with everyone including the Pastor. We had thought CNL was 'it' for us.
After we came back from Thailand, I was so grateful to God that He has allowed this period of rest for both Kelv & I to get to know each other more deeply. We both really felt in our spirits that it was time for both of us to commit & serve in the church together as husband and wife. So we prayed for God to give us the right opportunity at the right time to place us where it needed us the most.
Immediately after that prayer in October, our dear Pastor from Melb, Ps Ken (who gave the sermon at our wedding) came to Singapore to be a guest speaker at River Of Life Church (ROLC) which has around 100+ members in Punggol. Kelv & I decided to take a day off at CNL to support our Pastor. I tell you, getting to ROLC was a challenge. It's literally in the middle of no where. Far from civilisation. No MRT stations. So this means we would need to cab it and we did. It took half and hour to flag a cab down because for some reason, the taxi drivers must all be in church as well as taxis on a Sunday morning are very hard to find. I remember so vividly both of us saying to each other 'Thank God this is only a once off!'. Then when we got to the church, we realised it was really in the kampong area & once again we said to each other 'thank God this is only a once off'. The church basically is a terrace house with 3 levels. I remember walking & feeling so out of place because the members were made up of the two extreme age groups: Youth & their Parents. No one in between (eg. no Young Adults, Newly Weds, New Parents etc). You were either a young teenager or a parent to some teenager. Once again both of us looked at each other saying 'Thank God this is only a once off'.
So after the sermon, a lot of people came up to us to welcome us, but of course Kelv & I didn't make a huge attempt to make conversations as we knew we would not return again... And boy were we wrong!
Next scene: Pastor John (Senior Pastor of the church), Pastor Rachel - 37y.o & very powerful woman of God (who is the Youth Pastor and used to be under Pastor Ken's Pastoral Care some donkey yrs ago) took Pastor Ken, Kelv & I for lunch to further fellowship with one another. As we were having lunch, automatically Ps Rachel & I hitted off so much so that we were having a conversation of our own while the 3 guys were chatting amongst themselves. I had no idea what the guys were talking about as I was just so engrossed by Pastor Rachel's life story & all of her testimonies. She did most of the talking. I listened & were completely amazed. Finally after lunch was over, Kelv & I didn't speak much to each other it was as if we were both trying to digest what each of the Pastors had shared with us.
When we got home, I asked Kelv 'how do you feel about the church?'. His response 'I feel compelled to serve in this church'. I was astonished & immediately replied 'me too!'. When each of the Pastors were sharing to us separately of what God has done in our lives, the Holy Spirit was already moving in our hearts separately. In our flesh, we absolutely did not want to attend the church as it was really so troublesome to get there & because we didn't think we would 'fit' in the church as we were the only Young Adult/Newly wed couple. But in our spirit, God was really calling the two of us to serve there. It's funny how God really stretch you out of your comfort zone.
From then on, we've been attending the church & everyday it's becoming more and more clearer as to why we've been called to serve there.
1) To help raise up their Youth who are approx 13-18y.o (which is approx 50% of the church)
2) To learn from the older generation who are all powerful men & women of God whom leads a very Godly family. This is the only church I've seen so far where all the men really steps up to lead in a lot of the ministries in church vs the women. It is also very unique in the sense that it is the Adults that really leads the church vs the Youth & these parents are extremely proud of their kids too especially when they grow closer to the Lord.
3) To help in their worship team of which Kelv & I has always love to be part of since our Melbourne days.
So there you have it. God has really answered our prayer despite the discomfort which mind you, it is now a privilege more than anything.
I've learnt too that you have to be very careful of what you pray for ;)

2) The Power of God in Activation
We have just came back from the Youth Retreat Service that Ps Rachel had invited Kelv & I as the special guest speakers to the Youth of ROLC and boy, I can not in my natural eyes fathom just how awesome our God truly is....
It all began during that lunch session with all the Pastors back in October. Pastor Rachel had asked Pastor Ken 'who should I invite as guest speakers for the upcoming Youth Retreat in Dec?'. Ps Ken immediately said 'Oh that's an easy one! Kelvin & Vicky.. boy you should've seen them preach their hearts out to the youth at the villages of Cambodia! The messages were powerful etc'. Both Kelv & I smiled with embarrassment and said 'um.. yes yes yes...you enjoying your food?' trying to change the topic. For some reason with only half and hour of knowing each other, Ps Rachel knew in her spirit that we were it - the two guest speakers of their Youth Retreat to be held on Dec 26th (I speak) -27th (Kelv speaks). After praying & discussing about it, Kelv & I eventually agreed to take this privilege on board.
So fast forward, three months later to tonight. With all the travels leading up to this event, I had only 1 day to thoroughly prepare for the message although I had already knew what to preach on. Both Kelv & I prayed & fasted over tonight's meeting. We were waiting in great expectation for God to show up as I knew there was no way in the world that my message would make any impact without His annointing. My Message title was called "Faith, I can move mountains" taken from the scripture Mark 11:22-25 Finally at around 8:15pm after P&W was over, Ps Rachel introduced me to go up to preach to approx 20+ Youth ranging from 13-19y.o. I knew these Singaporean teenagers were very conservative vs the typical Aussies. Ps Rachel had too warned me already. As I began my introductions, I could see all the faces looking at me weirdly. Butterflies were flying in my stomach left right and centre. However, as I began to preach, God really took over. Some of the revelations said was not of my own. I didn't even prepare for it. God literally put the words in my mouth to the point that even I too was amazed! Not only that, God prompted me to say some of my own life's experiences/testimonies that I didn't even prepare for.
Towards the end of the night, I remember thinking to myself 'oh no, die ler.. I'm about to close the sermon now and I can't see these kids responding to the message at all. Some more, they hardly laughed at my jokes!'. But, with a mountain-moving-faith, I persevered on to challenge everyone of them to respond to my message. As their eyes were closed, one by one their hands lifted up asking for prayers. I was absolutely blown away....
"Not by might, not by power, but by my spirit", says the Lord
The next scene was beyond our imagination. I really thought I would just close my message tonight with a prayer for everyone and then go home. Done. Kapish. Thank God it was all over. But God had other ideas. One by one, all the Youth that raised their hands came up to the front for prayer. We later found out from their parents/Ps Rachel that they usually don't come up to the front because they are very conservative/shy/too scared to lose face type of kids. It was then that I knew the unexpected was going to happen...
I asked all the leaders, Pastor & my husband to also come up to pray for these kids. We laid hands on each of them separately. Kelv & I could really feel the bondage in many of these kids. They were very much oppressed by the spirit of fear, rejection, anxiety & some even depression. As we prayed, the atmosphere really changed. There was such a strong sense of God in the place. Then.. One by one, these kids fell onto the floor slained in the spirit. Half of the audience were in tears and another few received the baptism of the Holy Spirit & were prophesied over. For many of them, it was the first time that they have ever seen the Power of God activating before their very own eyes. God was truly moving.
When the service finally ended at around 11pm, Pastor Rachel took Kelv & I to the back and told us of her amazement of what had happened tonight! She told us too that the theme of the Youth Retreat is actually titled "Expect the Unexpected" and boy did God deliver on this.

3) The Power of a Mother's Prayer
We have recently came back from our five days trip to Macau & Hong Kong. Yes it was memorable. But for the wrong reason.
On the first day of our trip to Macau which was last Thursday, our beloved Canon Ixus 850 was stolen at our very own 4-Star hotel that we were staying in. It was gone within 10seconds after I had left it on the table to get breakfast at the hotel's restaurant. Everything was caught on camera. Including the thief's face. Who would've thought that he would be a middle aged man that looks like a father to some kid? What has the world become of?
After this incident had happened, we spent the whole day in Macau's police station. The scene & reports of crime were so evident in the department. Scenes of criminals being locked up in the room. Scenes of woman crying over her fear that she and her husband would be the next victim of a murder. It was absolutely awful. We spent the next 4days in HK trying to get over the loss of our 9-month old $677 camera.
To cut the story short, tonight when we got back home to Singapore, I saw an email from my mother (who didn't know anything about what had happened). She told me that recently, she had a dream. In her dream, I was only 8y.o. She took me to Disneyland on the train. There was a lot of people on the train. With all the pushing & shoving on board by the passengers, all of a sudden she had lost me. I was no where to be found. She panicked so much that she woke up in fear. She was so relieved it was only a dream.
However in her spirit, she suspected something was wrong as she knew Kelv & I were travelling in Macau/HK. Immediately, she started to intercede for us & covered us in prayer. Her dream happened on Wednesday night. Our robbery took place right after her dream on Thursday morning.
I tell you, if it wasn't for her spiritual covering, I truly believe that things could've been much worse. What's more, my mother has never taken me to Disneyland. Both of us rarely sat on a train together when I was growing up. So why on earth would she dream such an out of the ordinary dream? About two days later, I came to the conclusion that God really spoke to her of Kelv & I's safety in HK. We traveled so frequently on the MTR trains and it was very squashy & ppl were always shoving & pushing. Plus we sat on the line to go to Disneyland in HK too. It really blows my mind every time I think about it.
God always manages to speak to mothers when something bad happens to their child and mind you, this was not the first time that something like this has happened to my mother & I either.
Thank God for Mothers..

Weekend with the relos
My aunty (mum's sister), uncle, cousins & their kids (who lives in KL Malaysia) came to stay with us for the weekend (Thurs-Sun). It was so great to have family around. The noise, the food, the laughter - all rolled into one! When they left on Sunday evening, the house was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop...

What the?
I don' t know if it's the Christmas feeling in the air, but something strange has happened to my husband..
First we were walking around in Forum Shopping Complex on Orchard and all of a sudden you see Noddi on stage entertaining all the kids. Mr M was so engrossed by it that he kept on watching Noddi dancing away without knowing that his wife is taking photos of him.
Next he decided to join us for a Durian Feast when he absolutely hates durians.. You see when he was my 'tai gor', he used to leave the room at the scent of durians. Now, he just can't get enough of it. I guess it's really the price that one pays for love...
