Soy = Spotless Shiny Skin

My two mothers have been forcing I mean encouraging me to eat more soy especially at this stage of my pregnancy. So this means soy bean curd, soy bean curd sheets (fu pei) and of course soya bean milk. Apparently when you eat more soy during your final trimester, your baby will come out with the most beautiful skin... (ok this is your typical Chinese belief.. let's see if this is a myth or a fact shall we?!)

This afternoon, my mum decided to boil a whole year's supply of soya bean milk from scratch for me to drink (lucky me). She bought half a kg of soya beans & soaked it over night. With that she blended them with water in a blender, poured the contents into a rice/bread mix bag & squeezed the life out of it for all the juice to come out. The final step of course is to boil them in low heat for at least 1hr in a big sauce pan (normally with Pandan Leaf to give its fragrance) & then adding rock sugar to sweeten it once the soy bean milk is nearly cooked.

It was fun watching her make this but I tell you it was really not fun having to drink so much of it... Baby Minga better have beautiful skin!

thx for sharing... i might try making the soy myself. so with 0.5kg of soy bean, how much water do you have to add before blending them together? does it taste better than the soy milk in the shops? the beans have to be soaked overnight before put them in the blender, is that right?

Siska: you really do need to aka aka with the water.. basically rule of thumb is to ensure it's enough so that you can blend it in the blender - not too much water but not too little as well & yes you have to soak it overnight so that the beans are full of juice (obviously you don't put the whole 500g in the blender all at once).

It does taste better than the shops b/c it's more creamier instead of the diluted ones u buy from the chinese shops. Make sure you have a good solid bag too so that the blended pieces of soy doesn't seep through the bag but only its juice.

& oh, get pandan leaves too from Chinese grocery shops (usually in the frozen section) to boil it with it for about 30mins in low heat. Don't add sugar until it's nearly cooked otherwise there will be that awful burn smell.

Good luck with giving it go at it. It should be fairly easy!

Steph: Yah still twiddling my thumbs waiting impatiently for him to burst my water... I don't think he wants to come out leh.. I think he loves all the food Kelv's been feeding him way too much in my tummy! hahaha
