The Grand to a father's love...

Recently my MIL has not been well to take care of our little one. So this means by default, my father has to look after Z.

I find the both of them extremely cute. A very tall old man with a very small young baby but yet they share the same nose. I've always said from day one since Z was born, that he has my dad's nose which is now more evident. Whenever Z is at his grandparents' place, he really acts like a spoiled brat b/c the grandparents let him get away with everything of course...

Z & my dad converse to each other in a way as if they both understand what one is saying. My father's most favourite words to Z is 'da da da.. huai baby..' which is Chinese for smack smack smack, naughty baby.. Instead of being scared at these words, Z will copy my father and say 'da da da da da...' and then he will commence to smacking the table. His wai gong's second most fav words to him is 'cou cou cou!'. Z will respond with a smile as if it's very funny that his grandpa thinks he's smelly.

The past week (from Tues night onwards), we had to leave Z to stay over night at my folks place so they can look after Z while we work. The arrangement was that we would pick him up on Friday night so this means my dad will need to look after him

Every day, I would ring my dad from work & I find it hilarious that my dad now has no life. His life literally revolved around Z. For example, my dad loves to go on the net at night but he can't do that any more cos Z would be all over his keyboard. Plus my dad has to rock him to sleep each night. At day time, he loves to watch all of his Chinese shows on satelite, however, now that Z is here, Z would take the remote control off him, switch to other channels & my dad would be fighting with him as to who gets to watch what. So in the end, it ends up Z winning & they both have to watch cartoons together. Not only that, all of my dad's newspaper or whatever documents on the coffee table would all be messed up or ripped up. Z has marked his territory all over my father's house. My dad has no free time whatsoever to do anything without taking his eyes off the naughty little one.

At night, my father doesn't sleep that well b/c he sleeps with Z in my old room. Z would wake up in the middle of the night & moves his head towards wai gong's pillow nearly kicking off his bed or he would cry for his milk & poor wai gong has to wake up in the freezing cold night to make his neng neng...

When we finally got to my folks place on last night, my mother told me how blur my dad has become all b/c of the lack of sleep. It's just so funny. When I observe the both of them, Z loves to speak really loud in front of my dad as if having a go at him while my dad always loves to threaten him by saying 'baby, da pi gu liao.. ' (baby, I am going to smack your bottom). Yet Z still carries on & deliberately continues to play and be naughty cos he knows he can get away with it. And of course he does... When he wakes up crying from his nap, Z doesn't want anyone to carry him/comfort him except his wai gong. All of a sudden, mummy is no longer needed.

I find it extraodinary to watch the relationship shared with my father & my son. Even though there are vast differences in generations, physics and development, nonetheless there is still this strong connection between the both of them called love.

On this day, I want to wish my father a very happy Father's Day. For the years of not only nurturing us & taking care of your own children througout our lives, but now extending this love to your children's child & future children. We thank & praise God for you our dearest Bah-Bi & for the unconditional love & care you have for all of us :)
